(1) No Tree Removal Permit Required.

Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2) of this section, no tree permit is required to remove, cut, or prune trees on private developed, partially developed, or undeveloped lots as follows:

  • Trees are located outside environmentally critical areas, shoreline areas, and required buffers (as verified by the City or a qualified professional);
  • Trees are not part of a required landscaping area;
  • The total clearing area is less than 2,000 square feet; and
  • All other applicable local, state, and federal regulations are followed.

(2) Tree Removal Permit Required.

Except as exempted in subsection (3) of this section, a tree permit is required to remove, cut, or prune trees as follows:

  • Trees located within a critical area, shoreline area, or associated buffer;
  • Trees within a required landscaping area;
  • Clearing of 2,000 square feet or more on private property;
  • Trees located on City-owned property;
  • Trees located within City right-of-way.
