Major changes include the requirement to obtain a Clearing and Grading Permit before removing any landmark tree, significant tree, or any tree located in critical areas or buffers. Emergencies such as a tree posing imminent danger to persons or property may be removed without a permit, but replanting is required, and photos should be taken before removal. All new residential developments are required to have 20% tree canopy coverage, while new commercial developments must have 15%. Trees on public property, including street trees, may not be removed without a permit. Removal of any tree in violation of the code is subject to criminal and civil fines.

  • DSH of 12" or greater (trunk diameter measured 4.5' from ground).
  • Healthy.
  • Not within 1.5 tree lengths from a habitable structure.
  • Not obscuring safe site requirements at intersections or points of ingress/egress.
